Aaron's story — living with Type 1 diabetes and building BoostT1D

Aaron was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes at just 17 months old. Growing up, diabetes wasn't something he could leave behind—it was part of every meal, every school day, every dance competition, and every late-night glucose alarm.

As he got older, he realized that managing diabetes wasn't just about numbers. It was about making hundreds of decisions every day while trying to live a normal life. Existing apps could record data, but they rarely helped answer the questions that mattered most: Why did this happen? What can I learn? What should I do differently next time?

When Aaron began volunteering with newly diagnosed families, he met children who were frightened and parents who felt completely overwhelmed. He saw how much easier those first weeks could be if someone who had already walked the same path was there to help.

That's how BoostT1D began.

Built by someone living with Type 1 diabetes, BoostT1D combines artificial intelligence with real-life experience to help people understand their glucose patterns, analyze meals, recognize trends, and make more informed decisions every day. Beyond technology, it brings people together through a supportive community where no one has to navigate diabetes alone.

Today, BoostT1D is a Congressional App Challenge National Winner and has been recognized for using technology to improve the lives of people with Type 1 diabetes. But Aaron's mission hasn't changed: to make life with diabetes a little less overwhelming, one insight, one conversation, and one family at a time.

BoostT1D has been recognised as a Congressional App Challenge National Winner and an MIT Solve “AI for a Better World” Grand Prize Winner, and has been covered in the press — see all of Aaron's awards or read the coverage.
